September 4, 2004 Brookpark OH - Quikky’s
sophomore year had high hopes after 2003's 7-2 run in the spring
season as IDS. Despite IDS’s dominance and vibrant personality
throughout the league, opinions clashed unraveling areas that needed
to be changed in order to take home a championship. The former
IDS began the 2004 season thinking they had solved the problem
with a new sponsor, new colors, and by replacing the players with
poor attitudes. Despite Quikky’s off-season transactions,
differences still surrounded the team’s nucleus.
Quikky’s season would pick up where IDS left off, however
it was not how everyone anticipated. Instead of bringing the dominant
spirit, they brought the same bad attitude they ended the 2003
season with. Week after week Quikky’s struggled to keep it
together. The potential was there but the winning desire wasn’t.
In the middle of the spring season, Quikky’s bad blood eventually
forced IDS’s staples Lloyd and Peanut to go their separate
ways causing more angst to surround the team. Eventually Quikky’s
became accustom to losing and their self defeated attitude got
the best of them earning them a pathetic 1-9 record on the first
half the summer.
After the disappointing 1-9 spring season, Coach Nick sought long
and hard to find a winning combination. He discovered that the
team lacked talent and depth in certain areas. With the addition
of a couple key players and after a few minor tweaks, Quikky’s
entered the summer season revamped and aching for a fresh start.
Even after falling short in the summer season opener, it seemed
that Quikky’s finally had it together.
But once again, Quikky’s let internal differences get the
best of them. A heated scuffle sent MJ, Quikky’s newly acquired
pitcher and supposed saving grace, packing. The bump in the road
would come at the worst time for Quikky’s causing them to
go 0-3 versus Fairview the divisions only stronghold, Slams Jams
their bitter rival, and Foundation their new nemesis.
Quikky’s only high came the following week from a stellar
comeback after trailing 12-0 in the 1st, however it didn’t
generate enough momentum to propel Quikky’s to the playoffs.
Ironically, Quikky’s last two games of the season ended up
defining their 2nd year in the league: “Coming up a day late
and a buck short” in their loss to Blue Moose (Van Ness)
and “Pathetic” succumbing to R&B.
