After a depressing loss to Asset
Acceptance that ended an impressive run during last
half of the season, the former IDS is back for another summer
in the Coed Division I-A at Softball World on Friday nights.
This
year's roster is comprised of Coach Nick, Nick's Older Sister,
Michael Galioto, Kevin Hotchkiss, Joy Visnjic-Flaherty, Mike
Ladoszka,
Jay Zadzilka, and new additions Jaclyn Decore, Janet Pawlowski,
Nikki Oppman, Adam Gercak, and Deena Gercak.
Last season the rookie team experienced
many highs and lows. The season began with a dismal 0-5 start but ended
with a flourishing 10-3 run in the remaining 13 games of the season.
After the first 5 games, strategy
and talent fell into place allowing the young team to accomplish all
of its inaugural season goals but one. These goals included: being
a competitive force to recon with, the overwhelming desire to beat
their rivals R&B and Computer Quest, and to make a strong run for
the season and tournament trophies.
IDS swept R&B 3-0
on the season, gained respect in the league by leaving the high caliber Titans Thunderstruck
31-11, finished 7-2 and only one game out of first during the second
half of the season, and was only one game away from obtaining the tournament
trophy. The only goal IDS left unaccomplished was that they failed
to defeat their bitter rival Computer
Quest.
This year's team, sponsored by Quikky's
the popular IDS hangout last season, looks to finish the job. Quikky's
hunger to beat their arch rival Computer Quest may be left unfed if
Computer Quest is reluctant to return this season, but their thirst
for the championship trophy is still yearning to be quenched.
With 85% of the team returning this
season with an impressive year under their belt, the expectations and
aspirations run high.
The sophomore season of the new
dynasty which unites Coach Nick and father Michael Galioto together
for another season, may mark an end to Michael Galioto's 33 year softball
run due to his ailing herniated disks.
