August 12th: Froggy's Gets
the Job Done Versus Sly Fox 9-3
Worn out from last week’s romping of Bob’s
Crew, Froggy’s was delighted to see that Sly Fox was on the
bill. Not only did Sly Fox come into the game with a 0-6 record,
they came into the game without enough players. Taking into consideration
the lopsidedness of talent between these to teams to begin with,
and the fact that they were short handed, everyone on hand thought
that this game was going to be over in 4 innings.
Surprisingly that wasn’t the case. Froggy’s knew it
was just a matter of time before they would get the win, but the
game was painstaking. It was hot, muggy, and outright boring. The
game stunk so bad that the smell radiating from diamond wasn’t
from the 2 skunks that hung out in the outfield the entire game.
In the 5th inning, Sly Fox actually used the skunks to their advantage.
Maybe Sly Fox could communicate with the skunks telepathically because
they have the word fox in their name (or maybe because they both
stink.)
In the top of the 5th, Kevin hit a ball deep to RC that should have
been an inside the park homerun, but the umpire ruled the ball dead
because the ball supposedly was too close to one of the skunks.
Even though the victory didn’t go the way Froggy’s expected to,
Froggy’s came away with a 9-3 win over Sly Fox in the end. Absent from
the game was Froggy’s #3 hitter and outfield staple Boyd, who took off
to find greener pastures in Florida.
August 5th: Froggy's
Takes Out The R&B Loss On Bob's Crew By Pounding Them 21-6
After laying an egg last week versus
R&B, Froggy’s
came into week 7 looking for someone to take it out on. It just so
happened to be that Bob’s Crew was the lucky candidate.
As visiting
team for the second week in a row, Froggy’s immediately
began the punishment. Froggy’s first 3 batters, E, Megan, and
Boyd
leg the brigade to give Froggy’s a quick 2-0 lead. In the bottom
of
the 1st, Bob’s Crew came to play like they normally do in the
1st
inning. If they could only find a way to play that way throughout
the
rest of the game and not fizzle out in the 2nd, they would actually
be
a good team. Fortunately for Froggy’s struggling defense, Bob’s
Crew has yet to figure out how to hold on to their momentum past
the 1st
inning.
As the game went on, Froggy’s continued to take out their
aggression from the R&B loss on Bob’s Crew. Inning after
inning it was all
frogs. Froggy’s O masterfully found the holes, and when they
couldn’t
they made their own. Boyd, Jason, and Kevin (this time he was safe)
all had inside the park homeruns.
Even after accumulating enough runs
for the fourth inning run rule, Froggy’s showed no mercy on the shell-shocked Bob’s Crew.
Ahead 21-3
going into the bottom of the 4th, Froggy’s defense even considering
tanking enough runs to extend the game, just to get another offensive
crack at Bob’s Crew. However Froggy’s shaky defense didn’t
have to
screw up on purpose to allow runs to score. By playing normal,
Froggy’s poor defense allowed 3 runs to score anyway. It’s
a good
thing Bob’s Crew’s offense sucks and Froggy’s O
put up 21 runs,
otherwise there could have been a repeat upset like last week.
After a season filled with big game chokes,
Froggy’s
lets it all out
on Bob’s Crew 21-6.
July 29th: R&B Upsets
Froggy's 14-13
As
trash talking began to litter cell phones around Parma prior to
the second match-up between Froggy’s and R&B, the frogs remained
fairly
silent. The members of Froggy’s figured that after their total
domination over R&B in the spring, why bother running their mouth?
But unbeknownst to Froggy’s the tadpoles (R&B) came ready
to play. After
losing what would end up being a crucial coin toss, Froggy’s
O had a
chance to create some early damage. At the onset of the game, it
seemed that Froggy’s was going to put the game away in the
1st inning. That is until R&B pulled the lily-pad away from
Froggy’s
after only 3 frogs were able to make it across safely.
To the surprise
of half of Parma on hand, R&B came out swinging
in the
bottom of the 1st. Using Froggy’s defensive vulnerabilities
against
them, R&B jumped out ahead 5-3. Froggy's was able to tie the
game back up 5-5 in the top of the 2nd, but R&B took it back
6-5
in the bottom. Then just as expected Froggy's slowly began
to surge ahead 9-6 then 12-7. Froggy's 4th inning rally was lead
by Nick who got his revenge over R&B after Joy dropped the ball
during a dramatic play at the plate that enabled him to complete
his 1st
ever inside the park homerun.
Despite allowing Nick to get his revenge
from getting gunned down at home last game, R&B gained the momentum back after throwing
out Kevin at home in back-to-back at bats. Kevin's double whammy
was just the spark R&B needed to shut down Froggy's O the rest
of the game.
Despite entering the 6th inning with a 13-9 lead, Froggy’s
feared that
their 4 run cushion wasn’t enough. Only 5 runs away from pulling
off
a spectacular upset, R&B came up to bat determined to dethrone
their
heavily-favored web-footed rivals. And sure enough, the team combined
of Quikky’s rejects somehow managed to tie the game 13-13.
At this
point it seemed that Froggy’s still had a chance in extra innings.
But
with 2 outs and nobody on base, R&B’s batter hit a deep
ball to center
field. As Kevin and Eric both tried to make the catch at the fence,
they collided and the ball dropped. By the time someone picked up
the
ball and it was relayed in, R&B’s hitter already came around
and
scored the winning run.
As R&B celebrated at home plate, their was controversy over
whether or
not R&B’s runner touched home or even 3rd base. However,
it was too
late. The game was final. In a shocking last at bat comeback,
Froggy’s gets upset by their friendly rival R&B 14-13.
Froggy’s last
minute loss to R&B narrows their already slim chance of winning
the
division.
July 22nd: Froggy's
Gets Revenge Against Their Rival Carnivores 16-12
In their first meeting since the infamous 3 hour walk
fest, Froggy’s was prepared this time to face the Carnivores
with Jason their new starting pitcher. After the Carnivores’
cheap spring season victory over Froggy’s, the trash talking
lit up the SBW message board like sparklers on Chinese New Year. The
hype surrounding the rematch of these two teams began to resemble
the heat surrounding the old IDS/Computer Quest rivalry.
Jason, coming off a 2 hit shutout the week before versus Slam Jams,
showed the Carnivores the way the game would have gone the last time
they played Froggy’s if Coach Nick had bended the rules and
let him pitch. Watching the Carnivores being forced to swing was like
watching a baby who didn’t want to eat their squash. They didn’t
want to swing, but Jason gave them no choice but to do it.
Jason’s flawless pitching in the top of the 1st pumped Froggy’s
up. In their first offensive crack at the meathead Carnivores, Froggy’s
unleashed the beast immediately. Froggy’s commanding fists of
fiery enabled them to take a 5 run lead.
After witnessing Froggy’s powerful display of adrenaline,
the Carnivores soon realized they were in for a real game. Froggy’s
aggressiveness kept the Carnivores at bay until the top of the 3rd.
Doing what they do best (besides holding their bats on their shoulders)
the Carnivores took advantage of Froggy’s mistakes to take
the lead 7-5. Despite Froggy’s 3rd inning defensive disarray,
Froggy’s
Red Bull like rush was far from over.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Jason's inside the park home run put Froggy's
back ahead 8-7 and back in the driver's seat. However, before Froggy's
had a chance to savor the lead, the Carnivores grabbed the lead right
back 9-8. Then in one of the dumbest moves ever, the Carnivores took
out their starting pitcher and replaced him with the guy who Froggy's
hit 30 runs off of the first time they met. Needless to say Froggy's
O used this to their advantage. Froggy's O masterfully combined walks
and hits to let the frogs out on the Carnivores with 5 runs in the
4th and 3 runs in the 5th. As Froggy's O produced, the defense began
to settle down.
With a 16-10 lead going in the top of the 6th, Froggy’s defense
was determined to prevent the Carnivores from coming back. Despite
getting 2 runs back, the Carnivores unprecedented antics failed to
enable them to tie up the game. In an epic battle, Froggy’s
ends the Carnivores undefeated streak and gets revenge on their new
rival 16-12.
July 15th:
Froggy's Lets Out the Hit Parade Versus
Slam Jams 14-0
Despite Froggy’s 23-7 spring victory over Slam
Jams, anyone who was at diamond #2 fifteen minutes before their scheduled
rematch would have bet Slam Jams was going to win this time. At 6:15,
the entire Slam Jams team was already there warming up and Froggy’s
barely had enough players to field a team. However once the game began,
with Froggy’s automatically selected to be visiting team, the
exact opposite occurred.
Even though Slam Jams appeared to be warmed up and ready to go before
the game, they were barely present throughout. The game was basically
5 innings of Froggy’s batting practice, with a side of solid
Froggy’s D. Slam Jams was only able to answer Froggy’s
14 runs with 2 measly hits. Wham Bam Thank you Slam Jams. In one
of
the fastest games ever played for IDS, Quikky’s or Froggy’s,
Froggy’s humiliates Slam Jams 14-0. The game was so short
that any longer of game summary wouldn’t do the game
justice.
July 8th:
Froggy's Allows Preferred Installation
to Get the Best of Them 16-11
July 1st:
Froggy's Hangs On to Beat Hangin Around
14-12
Anyone who has been around the last couple of seasons
knows that the Froggy’s Hangin Around game is always a battle.
The crew that calls themselves Hangin Around couldn’t have chosen
a more appropriate nickname because they are always in the game. Taking
that into consideration, Froggy’s dipped into their pool of
talented reserves and put in former fall frog Jason to pitch in Joe’s
absence. Battling the blaring sun and the early attacking Hangin Around,
Froggy’s immediately trailed 5-0. Unlike the quick starting
Hangin Around, it took Froggy's an inning to get warmed up, and when
they did they took over the lead 6-5.
However, a combination of the sun and Froggy's shaky
defense (excluding the nice catches at the fence by Boyd) allowed
Hangin Around to tie the game 6-6 in the 3rd. In the bottom of the
4th, Froggy’s took full advantage of free admission on the Hangin
Around Carousel ride. Hangin Around’s second- string pitcher
pumped in enough quarters for Froggy’s O to accumulate a 14-7
lead before someone pulled the plug. Despite being dizzy from Froggy’s
runners rhythmically circling the bases, Hangin Around was able to
come right back and score a run in the top of the 5th and shut Froggy’s
down 1-2-3 in the bottom.
Entering the 6th inning with a 6 run cushion, Froggy’s nonchalant
defense allowed Hangin Around to close the gap 14-12. With only one
out and the tying run at the plate, a batter on Hangin Around hit
the ball to Mike at short. As Mike was in the middle of throwing the
ball to first to complete a double play, a player from Hangin Around
running to second put his arms up to distract him. Thanks to Hangin
Around’s unsportsmanlike-like blunder, the umpire ruled the
close play at first in Froggy’s favor due to runner interference.
The double play ended up ending the inning and the game because the
game clock had recently expired. In an exciting turn of events, Froggy’s
puts Hangin Around’s 6th inning comeback to a dramatic halt
and beats the Bad News Bears wannabe’s 14-12.
June 24th:
Froggy's Spanks Sly Fox 22-2
Coming into the summer season as the division favorite
with all the tough teams gone, Froggy’s didn’t know what
to expect versus a new team called Sly Fox. But before the game began,
the few remaining Quikky’s members quickly noticed that Sly
Fox was really one of last year’s worst teams: Ameriquest. However,
at this point it wasn’t clear if they were the same team, had
revamped, or contained members of the old Asset Acceptance.
In the top of the 1st, Sly Fox got off to an early 1
run lead after Froggy’s rusty defense turned a single into a
inside the park homerun because of 3 throwing errors. Despite Froggy’s
revolving roster, Froggy’s came up to bat in the bottom of the
1st with a full deck of 12. Their stacked line-up included newcomer
Lori and a cameo by the fan favorite MJ. Leading off for the 10th
time this year, Eric cranked up Froggy’s spanking machine with
a lead off triple. Spank after spank, Froggy’s leaped ahead
5-1.
The next inning, Sly Fox somehow managed to trickle
in another run (at that point I don't think anybody was paying attention).
For their punishment, Froggy’s brought back out the whoopin’
sticks in the bottom of the 2nd and really let them have it with 12
more runs including an inside the park HR by Joe.
As Sly Fox’s bats continued to sputter, Froggy’s
rusty defense didn’t get many chances to oil up. Thankfully,
the frogs were filled with a whole lot of O. In the bottom of the
3rd, Froggy’s sluggers tacked on 5 more runs. Froggy’s
unstoppable showcase of talent included an inside the park HR by Jaclyn.
Down 22-2 going into the top of the 4th, Sly Fox finally
cried uncle forcing Froggy’s to put away the paddles. In the
battle of the local bars, Froggy’s hands it to Sly Fox 22-2
in 4 innings.
June 10th: Adelphia Spoils
Froggy's Playoff Run 15-5
The week after one of the most ridiculous games ever
witnessed, Froggy’s came into their last game of the spring
season versus Adelphia in a must win situation. A Froggy’s victory
over Adelphia would force a three way tie at 6-3 between Adelphia,
Froggy’s and Fairview and knock the hospital staff out of the
playoffs. Taking that into consideration and the fact that Adelphia
had been hyping up this match-up since the beginning of the season,
Froggy’s began the game under a lot of pressure.
In the top of the 1st, Froggy’s took the field as home team
but failed to keep Adelphia’s power hitters contained. Adelphia
unleashed their loaded arsenal immediately, and blanketed the outfield
with strategically placed hits to build a 5 run lead. In the bottom
of the 1st, it was apparent early that Froggy’s guns, which
put up 30 runs the pervious week, weren’t fully loaded. Froggy’s
saw Adelphia’s 5, but was only able to raise them 1. Froggy’s
quick 1st at bat allowed Adelphia’s bombers to get right back
to work in top of the 2nd. This time Adelphia’s seasoned hitters
combined walks and hits to pull ahead 9-1.
As the game progressed, there were no "Who Let the Frogs Out"
cheers in Froggy's second and third and fourth at bat either. Taking
full advantage of Froggy's dormant O, Adelphia continued their frog
routing extending their lead 15-5.
Facing the 10 run mercy going into the bottom of the 5th, Froggy’s
needed only one run to keep the game and their playoff hopes alive.
Despite leading off with the heart of their order, Froggy’s
managed to get Kristen in scoring position with only one out, but
failed to get her home. In the end, Froggy’s bow and arrows
were no match for Adelphia’s air raid missiles. In only 5 innings,
Adelphia capitalizes on their opportunity to play spoiler and bumps
Froggy’s out of the playoffs 15-5.
June 4th: The Carnivores Take a Free Ride
on the Froggy Express 39-30
The day after a total dominatation
over their friendly rival R&B, Froggy's faced the only team in
the league they really knew nothing about, the Carnivores. With the
absence of Joe on the mound and an incompetent umpire, Froggy's quickly
learned what the Carnivores were all about: keeping their bats on
their shoulder. The way the Carnivores went into the game with no
intention of swinging one would begin to wonder, Are they just that
pathetic? Or did the get tipped off that Rachel wasn't Froggy's starting
pincher from a little Scorekeepers' birdy?
Throughout the entire game, every
Carnivore batter stood in the batter's box like a statue. The Carnivores
didn't even flinch or blink when an inside pitch hit them. At one
point it wasn't even clear if some of them even had a pulse. Going
into the 4th inning, the Carnivores managed to rack up 31 runs off
of only 6 hits. Despite Froggy's revolving pitcher, the umpire's strike
zone was so non-existent that he wasn't going to call a strike if
the ball was pitched over the plate or if Pedro Martinez was pitching.
As the 4th inning dragged on for what seemed like an eternity, the
game timer finally went off as Froggy's walked in 8 more runs to trail
39-20 going into their last at bat. Showing the Carnivores how to
hit, Froggy's impressive O came close to pulling off the ultimate
come back falling only 9 runs short (30 runs off of 23 hits). In one
of the longest, tedious, most pathetic games ever witnessed by everyone
on hand, the Carnivores cheat to one steal one away from Froggy's
39-30. The Carnivores should consider changing their name next half
to the Vegetarians because they weren't hungry enough to hit the many
meatballs that were pitched to them.
June 3rd:
Froggy's Dominates R&B 11-1
In
the Softball Word pond there are the toads (Teams like in Line Drive
Messenger in 1-B), the frogs (Froggy's), and than there are the tadpoles
(R&B). Taking this into consideration Froggy's began their six
meeting versus their friendly rival R&B lax-a-daze. With Joe's
absence, Froggy's took the field as home team with a little help on
the mound from Kristen. In their first at bat, Froggy's quickly jumped
ahead 2-0. The next inning R&B took advantage of Froggy's nonchalant
attitude and snuck run in to make it a 2-1 game.
In the bottom of the second, it looked like R&B
had gained the momentum after Brett prevented Nick from obtaining
his first inside the park HR ever by gunning him down by a step. But
as the game went on, Froggy's defense used their knowledge of R&B's
hitting style to kept them contained. Eventually Froggy's offense
turned it on and capitalized on weak R&B's defense arrangement.
With an 8-1 run lead in the 5th, Kevin, Jaclyn, Mike and Kristen set
the table for Nick to come in and poke a ball into center field to
end the game 11-1. Holding R&B to only 1 run, Froggy's shows R&B
that the days of them getting the best of the former Quikky's members
are over. The Battle of Parma Series is now Froggy's 4 R&B 2.
May 27th: Froggy's
Blows Out Slam Jams 23-7
After
falling 20-10 in 5 innings to their rival Scorekeepers, Froggy’s
came into this week hoping get one back from the team comprised of
players from Scorekeepers’ roots: Slam Jams. Heading into the
game, Froggy’s felt that Slam Jams wasn’t a team to be
taken lightly after they upset Scorekeepers 13-8 earlier in the season.
However, Slam Jams showed signs of weakness early when they took the
field a girl down and without their starting pitcher. Right away,
Froggy’s O took advantage of Slam Jams vacancies and launched
a massive hitting attack in the top of the 1st that hadn’t been
seen since the Fairview Hospital slugfest.
Froggy's 3 inning 13 run assault tore Slam Jams' defense to shreds.
The attack included a homerun over the fence by Joe and inside the
park homeruns by Boyd and Kevin. The only time Slam Jams even came
close to matching Froggy’s hit parade was in the bottom of the
4th when Slams Jams pathetic offense was given 4 outs after the umpire
ruled a spectacular catch by Eric “no catch”. The blown
call extended the inning (which should have been over) and allowed
Slam Jams to load the bases and capitalize on a defensive error cutting
Froggy’s lead 13-7.
In the top of the 5th, Froggy’s land and air assault continued
with a bunch of nice hits from Jaclyn and Megan and an inside the
park homer by Joe. Froggy’s O banked 10 runs and put the game
out of reach 23-7. In the bottom of the 5th, Slam Jams came up to
bat with nothing other than a bunch of sore buts from Froggy's 23
run a$$ kicking. In only 5 innings, Froggy’s takes out their
aggression against Scorekeepers out on their rival’s better
half Slam Jams 23-7.
May 20th: No Dice.
Froggy's Falls Again at the Hands of
Their Rival Scorekeepers 20-10
Froggy’s came into the game versus their rival
Scorekeepers seeking to do what neither IDS, Quikky’s or Froggy’s
has ever done before… Beat ‘em. Froggy’s also hoped
to gain some kind of solitude from that ugly bitter cold November
loss that prevented Tiffany’s Fall Frogs from winning the division.
Immediately, Froggy’s O struck the first blow with 3 runs.
In the bottom of the 1st, Joe delivered a couple of big KO’s
to shut down Scorekeepers 1-2-3. However, the next inning Froggy’s
defensive vulnerabilities slowly began to surface. As the innings
went by Scorekeepers either hit to the holes or made their own.
Down 14-3 in the top of the 5th, Froggy’s had a lot of catching
up to do. And thanks to one of Scorekeepers dumbest coaching moves
to date, Froggy’s offense got their much needed boost. In a
questionable move, Scorekeepers decided to platoon their starting
pitcher, who had kept Froggy’s O at bay the entire game, in
favor of a pin-striped, ball-whirling stiff. A masterful combination
of walks and key hits allowed Froggy’s to close the gap 14-10.
Finally realizing that the pitching change was a potential game losing
mistake, Scorekeepers put their starting pitcher back in and the cap
back on Froggy’s offensive can of whoop ass.
Despite Froggy’s sudden offensive surge, their defense failed
to keep them in the game. In the bottom of the 5th, Scorekeepers took
advantage of more of Froggy’s abundant mishaps and compiled
enough runs to end the game. In 5 innings, Froggy’s loses 20-10
to their rival Scorekeepers in a lop-sided non-verbal battle.
May 13th:
Froggy's Pulls a Rabbit Out of a Hat
to Defeat Hangin Around 12-9
Froggy's
headed into their match-up versus Hangin Around on a 2 game win streak
and on a high from one of the most exciting wins in team history.
However, as the early 6:30 game time quickly approached, the team
who took down Fairview Hospital the week before wasn't exactly 100%
intact.
Forced to bat first after a near forfeit due to player
absences, Froggy's swiss cheese line-up managed to put 1 run on the
board. Taking advantage of Froggy's impromptu defense, Hangin Around
took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the 1st. The pregame Chinese fire
drill continued to plague Froggy's O causing them to be impatient
and go through their batting order 1-2-3 two innings in a row.
At the start of the fourth inning, the scoreboard shockingly
read Hangin Around 9 Froggy's 1. Froggy's, the Froggy's faithful,
and other Coed I-A players who were on hand to scout, practically
did a double take to make sure they weren't watching a Quikky's game.
The only possible explanation for a team like Hangin Around (who had
also been playing the whole game a player short) to be up 8 runs on
a powerhouse like Froggy's was that it was Friday the 13th.
Out to prove Froggy's big victory over Fairview wasn't
a fluke and that they weren't wearing the wrong colored green shirts,
Froggy's O finally turned it on. Kevin flipped the switch with a one
run inside the park HR. A batter later, Joe, who was fueled by a mouthy
umpire blasted a HR that didn't need a gust of wind to get over the
L field fence. The back-to back solo shots rattled Hangin Around's
pitcher and got Froggy's on the board (9-3) for the first time since
the 1st inning.
After playing 3 innings of musical chairs, Froggy's
defense finally settled down and would end up shutting Hangin Around's
offense out the rest of the game. Slowly but surely, Froggy's O chiseled
away at their once 8 run deficit. Down 9-6 in the top of the 7th inning,
Froggy's put together a 6 run masterpiece taking the lead 12-6 and
the breath away from everyone on hand. In the bottom of the 7th the
stunned and out-gunned Hangin Around went down 1-2-3. In a remarkable
turn of events, Froggy's pulls off a late inning comeback to win 12-9
over the lovable losers Hangin Around. Froggy's goes into next week's
rivalry versus Scorekeepers on a 3 game winning streak.
May 6th: Froggy's
Out Muscles Fairview Hospital 20-19 in a Slug Fest
With
their first win out of the way, Froggy's was ready for their first
real evaluation versus one of the league's big guns: Fairview Hospital.
After being deemed visitor for the first time
this season, Froggy's sluggers got a head start in the 1st inning
posting 5 runs before anyone on Fairview Hospital even took a swing.
Astonished by Froggy's first at bat hitting display,
Fairview showed a little bit of what they were cookin' in the bottom
of the 1st with 3 runs. In the top of the 2nd, Froggy's snuck one
in extending their lead 6-3. In the bottom of the inning, Fairview
showed Froggy's that they weren't going away by tying the game 6-6.
Like a game of leap frog, Froggy's leaped ahead 9-6 in the top of
the 4th and Fairview tied the game 9-9 in the bottom of the 4th. Eventually
the game of leap frog turned into an all out slugfest, with Froggy's
leaping ahead and Fairview playing catch-up.
Froggy's bats erupted in the top of the 5th with 6 runs
off of 7 hits pulling away 15-9. Hoping to catch Froggy's again and
maybe pass them this time, Fairview brought out the illegal bat in
the bottom of the 5th. Fairview was able to close the gap to 1 run
(15-14), but luckily ran out of cork.
As the game went on the bats weren't the only one's
doing the hitting. In the top of the 6th, a frustrated and losing
Fairview Hospital 3rd baseman threw a cheap hockey check style elbow
into Eric who was running into 3rd. Far cry from the previous two
years, only soft words were exchanged. At that point Coach Nick (coaching
3rd at the time) and Eric decided to let Froggy's bats do the talking
and this is what they said: "How's 5 more runs for ya! Try to
catch up to that."
With Froggy's lead now 20-14 and the game clock winding
down, it was in the cards that the bottom of the 6th inning would
decide the game. Froggy's got the first out immediately, but the pressure
began to slowly deflate their 6 run cushion. Everyone knew this was
it and that it all came down to this inning. With 2 outs the score
was now 20-19 and the winning run was at 1st base. The batter popped
the ball up between SS and 2nd base. As Mike went up to make the catch,
he collided with Megan, bobbled the ball, fell on his back, but hung
on! In one of the most intense games of the past two years, Froggy's
hangs on to beat Fairview Hospital 20-19!
Following
last week’s rain out, Froggy’s second game of the season
actually came in week 3 versus Bob’s Crew (formally Blue Moose
Van Ness). The game time conditions were hazy and damp with a misty
rain falling down, the perfect setting for any frog to obtain its
first victory. Froggy’s took the field in the top of the 1st
as home team for the second time in row this season. Froggy’s
overhauled defense led by newcomer, Joe Kassandi (resembling Lloyd
West minus the excessive alcohol and obnoxiousness) at pitcher, managed
to get out of the top of the 1st unscathed.
In the bottom of the 1st, Froggy’s bloated offense got right
to work with bases loaded, however sloppy mistakes caused them to
only bank one run. In the next inning, Bob’s Crew came right
back and evened up the score 1-1.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Joe Kassandi got Froggy's bats started
and showed why he is the new top frog in town with a monsterous triple
to LC that was a gust of wind short of a homerun over the fence. Joe's
lead off triple ignited Froggy's offense, which racked up 7 runs off
7 hits, enabling them to leap ahead 8-1.
Throughout the game, Froggy’s outfielders were serenaded by
the appropriate deep sound of bull frog’s croaking in the outfield.
Froggy’s only real blunder came in the top of the 3rd, when
a line shot to RC allowed 3 runs to score. The 4 run game total ended
up being “all she wrote” for Bob’s Crew. The rest
of the game belonged to Froggy’s.
Smart pitch decisions and well placed hits earned Froggy's 2 more
runs in the 3rd and 7 more runs in the 4th. In only 5 innings, Froggy’s
bludgeons Bob’s Crew 17-4 to obtain their first W of the season.
Froggy’s win in Game 2 is the earliest first victory to come
out of the previous two spring seasons for IDS (Game 6) and Quikky’s
(Game 5).
April 22nd:
Froggy's Rained Out for Week
2 Versus the Carnivores
Will April showers bring Froggy's winning powers? They
will have to wait til next week (April 29th) to find out...
April 15th: Froggy's
Falls 22-17 in Their Season Opener Against Foundation
The
former Quikky’s began their 3rd season in the league versus
Foundation, out with the old and in with the new. Out was the name
Quikky’s, the drama, the lousy offense, Jay, Nikki, Janet, and
Joy, and in was the name Froggy’s, O, civilness, Kim, Megan,
Eric, and Kristen.
After a 45 minute delayed start, which ended up being a blessing
in disguise because it allowed time for Kristen to arrive in time
to fill in at pitcher for the absent Deena, Froggy’s took the
field as home team in their 1st game of the season. In the top of
the 1st inning, it was evident that Froggy’s defense needed
to shake off some off-season rust after allowing Foundation to rack
up 4 runs.
In the bottom of the 1st, Froggy’s came up to bat facing Quikky’s
alum MJ for the first time since last year. Luckily MJ didn't have
the same intimidating affect on Froggy’s that she did the last
time the 2 teams met. Instead, Froggy’s new beefed up line-up
went right to work and evened up the score 4-4.
Throughout the game, the lead changed hands several times and it
seemed that whoever was up to bat last was going to come away with
an opening day victory. Fortunately for Froggy’s the team that
was going to have the opportunity to strike last was them. In the
top of the 3rd, Froggy's explosive new offense enabled them to pull
away 13-7. However, in the top of the 4th, the bottom fell out on
Froggy's when they discovered that their rusty defense needed a lot
more than just oil. Foundation answered Froggy's 7 run 3rd with 6
in the 4th.
Froggy’s picked up one more run in the bottom of the inning
and held a 14-13 lead until the top of the 6th when their unstable
defense allowed Foundation to surge ahead 22-14. In Froggy's last
at bat in the 7th they were able to get 3 runs back, but their explosive
bats ran out of ammunition. Foundation beats Froggy’s 22-17
in a slug fest and comes away with their first W of the season leaving
Froggy’s having to wait until next week to find theirs.
